Cellular Status Indicators

For USB modems, check the signal strength by pressing the “reset” button on the VPN Gateway’s back panel. The signal strength will be represented by a sequence of LEDs on the front panel. Up to 6 LEDs, starting with the “online” light may be illuminated depending on the detected strength.

NOTE: The VPN Gateway must be powered on prior to performing this test. USB signal strength will appear in this form for five seconds. At least 3 LEDs of signal strength are recommended.

If using the embedded cellular modem (as opposed to a USB air card), the signal strength is displayed on the front panel in the array labeled “SIGNAL.” The color of the light labeled “CELL” indicates the type of network connectivity as noted below.

Cell Connection Type

Note that 4G LTE may not be available in all locations. Verify the expected coverage before deployment.

4G (LTE) -- BLUE: The ideal connection type available to the VPN Gateway. No need for further action.

3G (UMTS, HSPA+) -- GREEN: Reboot the VPN Gateway. If the device doesn’t register on 4G LTE afterward, verify APN information and contact the network administrator.

2G (GSM) -- RED: Reach out to carrier to confirm LTE availability and APN info. Ensure antennas are secure and the VPN Gateway is located near exterior of building.
