AT&T VPN Services

AT&T Managed VPN Services

Managed VPN Services enable you to use shared Internet technology, rather than leased lines, to conduct proprietary business. The service provides dedicated broadband and remote access connection to your private enterprise network by tunneling through the AT&T Global Network or the Internet. Managed VPN Services replace the function of dedicated private lines by using the relatively inexpensive and widespread availability of cheap access to the Internet. Tunneling technologies are used by AT&T to protect traffic on the public networks, thus creating a “virtual” secure private network.

VPNs are constructed by adding intelligent devices to your customer premises and configuring/managing them over the private AT&T IP backbone or the public IP network. Tunnel Servers deployed on your customer premises, with access to both the private network and the Internet, terminate tunnels originated by the remote devices to provide a secure network path between the remote site and your customer site network.

AVTS

The VPN Gateway can be used at a home or remote office site to establish a VPN tunnel to the tunnel servers which are installed on your premise. Based on your requirements or brand preference, the following Tunnel Servers (aka tunnel end points) can be used with the VPN Gateway Managed VPN service:

AT&T SIG

The AT&T SIG is an AT&T developed tunnel endpoint to allow optimal customer experience via superior customer support and reporting. This device also allows AT&T to respond more quickly to market and customer preferences/shifts.

Cisco

The VPN Gateway currently supports connectivity to Cisco 3K and the Cisco ASA.

AT&T will install, configure and manage these tunnel servers on your customer premises, but a variation called ‘AVTS Lite’ allows the customer to manage tunnel servers themselves which leaves AT&T to manage only the VPN Gateways at the remote site.

ANIRA

AT&T Network Based IP VPN Remote Access (ANIRA) provides business customers with a single solution for remote access from an end-user’s personal computer, or Local Area Network (LAN) to corporate LANs, intranets, and extranet(s), as well as the public Internet. The Service is the direct integration of AT&T Global Remote Access IP VPN services into AT&T’s private networking services, AVPN.

The integration of the services is accomplished via a Network Based IP VPN Remote Access Gateway (the AT&T Virtual Interface Gateway (VIG)) that bridges the AT&T Global IP Network and AT&T ’private’ Networks. This device is referred to as the AT&T VIG in this document.

ANIRA supports IPSec tunnels from a VPN Device (i.e., AT&T Global Network Client, or SOHO device: VPN Gateway or Cisco SOHO devices) to the AT&T VIG in the AT&T managed network cloud. The AT&T VIG terminates the IPSec tunnel and maps the traffic to the appropriate Data or IP VPN egress (MPLS or ATM PVC).

Unlike Managed VPN Services, no special tunnel servers need to be installed on your customer site. Tunnels are terminated on the common infrastructure AT&T VIG and traffic is delivered to your customer site network securely through the AVPN networks.

The VPN Gateway(s) at the remote sites use the relatively inexpensive and widespread availability of cheap access to the Internet. Tunneling technologies are used by AT&T to protect traffic on the global network, thus creating a “virtual” secure private network to the AT&T VIG.
