Configuration by Geographic Region

Regions

The VPN Gateway Device Profiles are defined on one of three global AT&T Administration Server regions:

  • US and Latin America (incl. Canada, South America, Australia, and New Zealand)
  • EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa)
  • AP (Asia Pacific less Australia and New Zealand)

Each region may be handled by multiple servers. The VPN Gateway will randomly select the AT&T Administration Server with which to communicate. If the request fails, the VPN Gateway will attempt the next AT&T Administration Server in the list. This will continue until all of the AT&T Administration Server servers in a region have been exhausted or a successful Device Query response has been received.

Region Detection

If the AT&T VPN Gateway Device Query response is a Device Profile Not Found error, the VPN Gateway will attempt to discover which region holds its configuration. The VPN Gateway will issue the Device Query to the AT&T Administration Server in each region starting with the US and proceeding to AP (as described in the above list). If any error other than the Device Profile Not Found is received, another AT&T Administration Server will randomly be selected from the same region. The AT&T VPN Gateway will continue to issue Device Query messages in a given region until a Device Profile Not Found Error is returned, or all of the AT&T Administration Server servers in the given region have been attempted. The AT&T VPN Gateway will then move to the next region and then reissue the Device Query. This will continue until the AT&T VPN Gateway is able to receive a successful Device Query response. As a result of a successful Query, the region’s AT&T Administration servers which responded are saved to be used for subsequent queries. If the AT&T VPN Gateway profile is later moved to a different  AT&T Administration Server region, the region detection logic will automatically be invoked.
