Software Upgrades

Software upgrades are released periodically to fix production issues and to introduce new features. There are several mechanisms to assist in controlling and administering software upgrades. All require a reboot of the VPN Gateway upon completion, so care should be taken before initiating an upgrade.

User Initiated

The user can manually check for software upgrades through the web interface by clicking Control Panel->System->Software Upgrade. If a newer version of the software is available it will be installed. This ability can be disabled in the VPN Gateway Device Profile stored in the AT&T Administration Server. Users can upgrade the VPN Gateway software by default.

Automatic

In the VPN Gateway Device Profile stored in the AT&T Administration Server, the VPN Gateway can be configured to automatically check for software upgrades.

Custom URL

In the VPN Gateway Device Profile stored in the AT&T Administration Server, a custom update URL can be defined.

Upgrade Confirmation

The VPN Gateway will notify the AT&T Administration Server when an upgrade is to be performed, and the AT&T Administration Server logs the software release version being installed in the VPN Gateway Device Profile. The VPN Gateway will notify the AT&T Administration Server once the upgrade is successful, ensuring that the Device Profile stored in the AT&T Administration Server reflects the upgrade; this allows support personnel to identify and troubleshoot software upgrade failures.

The VPN Gateway will notify the proactive monitoring servers with an “out of window” message during software updates. Once the installation completes, the VPN Gateway will resume sending normal proactive ping messages to the proactive monitoring servers. This prevents the proactive monitoring server from mistaking the upgrade for an outage.
