Software Updates
Automatic Update Configuration
The VPN Gateway can automatically check for new software at a set interval. The times of day that upgrades are allowed, the ability to automatically upgrade, and the frequency with which to check for updates are stored in the VPN Gateway Device Profile. If an upgrade is available, it will automatically be installed.
Custom URL
In the VPN Gateway Device Profile, a custom upgrade URL can be defined. This URL includes the ftp server and the path to the upgrade file. This can be used to restrict upgrades and prevent users from upgrading the code to levels not authorized by the customer’s company, or can be used prior to releasing the code to the entire VPN Gateway community.
Code Upgrade via Local LAN
The VPN Gateway can also force the upgrade to use a LAN interface to perform the upgrade. This is specifically helpful when the VPN Gateway is operating as a backup connection to a managed router and the primary WAN connection on the VPN Gateway is a dial or cellular connection. This permits the VPN Gateway to use the more cost-effective and better performing leased line connection through the managed router. When this feature is enabled the LAN interface is the only interface that the VPN Gateway will use for upgrade traffic.
Since the VPN Gateway image is a signed and encrypted image it is possible for AT&T to give the image to the customer to place on a customer-managed ftp server on the customer’s network. The same directory structure used by the AT&T upgrade server would need to be replicated on any other upgrade servers provided by the customer.
